Family Update

Dear Families,

We had an amazing and busy week here at Walnut Square!  This week, we celebrated appreciation week for teachers, nurses, and staff!  Thank you for all of your donations and gifts, and thank you to the Walnut Square PTO for your hard work and help in ensuring everyone felt appreciated!  I am overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity- thank you!

In addition to appreciation week, our third graders completed the MCAS Mathematics session 2.  We will have makeups next week, and next week we will also begin our iReady Diagnostic assessments and Literacy Tasks.  Classroom teachers will be communicating with you about these assessments, and we will send home copies of their progress reports upon completion.  This week we also started our alphabet calendar, and it’s been awesome!  Please check our social media for pictures and reels!

As we near the end of the school year, it is time to once again complete the Family Feedback survey.  Please click here to complete the brief, ten question survey.  Your feedback is very important and shared with Site Council, staff, and PTO.

Our attendance for May continues to be strong!  Thank you for your commitment to building the habit of daily school attendance!

As the spring season gets busy, reading every night with your child is very important.    It helps improve their vocabulary, comprehension skills, and overall academic performance. Additionally, reading fosters a love of literature and encourages critical thinking.  To support this essential habit, I invite all Superstars to complete the Superstar Book Review. Shine Bright Reader Tips from Ms. Dullea

As you are reading with your child at home, have them look to notice if the author used any sensory or feeling words in the story. Ask your second grader to tell you about the song they listened to and the discussion they had about how the repeated language in the song conveys meaning. Do you notice this in any of your shared favorite songs?
