Principal’s Post
Dear Families,
It’s hard to believe we’re already four weeks into the new school year (3 weeks for Kindergarten), and I’m so proud of how our students have settled in. As we continue this momentum, I want to take a moment to highlight a crucial component of student success: consistent school attendance. September is recognized as Attendance Awareness Month, a nationwide effort to remind us all that showing up to school every day is the most important step a student can take toward a bright future. Daily attendance routines can reduce stress, increase your child’s self-confidence, and lay a foundation for good attendance in later grades. Participation in school helps your child connect with other children and adults and get excited about learning. Children learn best from hand-on activities and through meaningful interactions with their teacher and other students. Give your child one of the best gifts possible- the gift of daily school attendance! Let’s work together this month and throughout the year to ensure every child has the opportunity to be present and ready to learn.
Next week, Wednesday, September 24th, is an early release day with dismissal at 11:35 am. Even though it’s a shorter day, it’s still a full day of learning packed with important instruction and fun activities. We truly appreciate your help in making sure your child is here and on time. Every minute in school contributes to their academic success and helps them build the foundational skills they need to thrive! Later that evening is our Pasta Dinner Fundraiser hosted by the Walnut Square PTO!
The PTO is also hosting the 3rd annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser! Here are the details:

In addition to attendance, building a strong reading habit is a crucial part of your child’s success. That’s why we’re encouraging all of our students to read at least 20 minutes every night. Reading regularly not only improves vocabulary and comprehension, but it also opens up a world of imagination and knowledge. We’ve been so impressed with the effort so far—our Superstars have already read 648 books this month! Let’s keep that momentum going. Please remember to log your child’s nightly reading using this link: https://forms.gle/bshU4hcReq2WGJ8r5. I can’t wait to share our final Superstars Reading Log data at the end of the month and celebrate all of your hard work!
As with all family updates, this will be posted on our school website, https://walnutsquare.archive.haverhill-ps.org/ and sent to you via Parent Square and Remind. In addition to the Walnut Square School website, you can also “like” our Facebook page, Walnut Square Elementary School, follow us on Instragram, @walnutsquaresuperstars, and/or follow my channel on YouTube, @jenrubera, to get updates and see all of the fun and learning taking place at Walnut Square! Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Jen Rubera
