Principal’s Post
Dear Families,
This week we transitioned from summer weather to rain to fall weather to welcome the long weekend! Please take a moment to note some key dates to help your family plan ahead: Monday, October 13th, is a Holiday with no school and all District Offices closed. The following day, on Tuesday, October 14th, 1st Trimester Progress Reports for PreK – 8th Grade will be issued. Students will have an Early Release (Dismissal is 11:35 am) on Wednesday, October 15th, for staff professional development, and we look forward to connecting with our families for Parent/Teacher Conferences from 4:00-5:30 pm on Thursday, October 16th. I appreciate your continued partnership and encourage you to reach out with any questions as we navigate this busy and exciting month together!
Walnut Square’s Fall 2025 Family Feedback Survey is open! Please take a moment to complete this brief, ten-question survey. Your valuable feedback is greatly appreciated and shared with staff, Site Council, and the PTO to improve Walnut Square School by celebrating success, identifying educational needs, and helping decision-making regarding the development of next year’s School Improvement Plan. Your input will play a significant role and is very much appreciated! Please click here to complete the survey.
Please read below for other important updates at Walnut Square School. Have a great weekend!

Superstar Reading Log Update: Flexibility and Choice for Families
We want to express our sincere gratitude for the dedication and time you put into supporting your child’s reading practice at home. Your commitment makes a significant difference in their literacy development. We understand that every family has a unique schedule and routine, and sometimes finding the right time and method to track reading can be a challenge. To provide more flexibility and make the monthly reading log completion as convenient as possible, we are excited to offer two distinct options starting this month:
Option 1: Digital Reading Log: https://forms.gle/bshU4hcReq2WGJ8r5
- For families who prefer to use their phones, tablets, or computers, the digital log offers a quick, accessible way to record books and minutes.
- Benefits: No papers to lose, easy access on the go, and automatically tracks submissions for us.
Option 2: Traditional Paper Reading Log
- If you prefer a physical record or find that a paper copy works best for your routine, we are happy to continue providing the traditional paper log format.
- How it works: The paper log template was sent home in your child’s folder this week.
- Benefits: A tangible record and no need for digital access.
Next Steps: Please Choose Your Preference
Please take a moment to discuss with your student which option works best for your family. Both logs require the same amount of reading, and the paper log is due on the last school day of the month. Our goal is to support a lifelong love of reading, and we hope this added choice helps make reading logs a smooth and enjoyable part of your evening routine.
